Give Me Freedom or Death!
“…Man is not the enemy of man but through the medium of a false system of government….”
Thomas Paine – American-British Political Theorist, Author and Revolutionary
In one of his most highly influential writing called “The Rights of Man” (1971), America’s founding father Thomas Paine, examines the French Revolution – which represent the demise of aristocracy that led to the flourish of individual liberty – as the most pivotal milestone in world history. While rebukes his friend, Edward Burke, who criticize the “excess” of french revolution, Tom Paine asserted firmly that people should be united to rise up against tyrannical system of government, such as French Monarchy, to defend people’s rights as free men. Rebellion is legitimate act against repressive reign who have corrupted the morality of the society and the freedom of the people.
